Crochet Stitch Video Tutorials

How to make a chain (ch)

The chain stitch is the first and most basic crochet stitch.

DC - Double Crochet Stitch Tutorial

This stitch is a staple when working with crochet.

You see the double crochet in almost every style of crochet. Blankets, mandala’s, apparel, hats, rugs. Tons of stuff.

Yarn over, insert your hook into the stitch and draw up a loop (3 on the hook) yarn over and draw through 2 loops, yarn over and draw through remaining loops.

HDC - Half Double Crochet Stitch Tutorial

A beginner’s crochet tutorial on the basic hdc (half double crochet). This is slightly bigger than a sc (single crochet). You’ll often see this stitch used in hat patterns, for a nice dense, warm fabric.

Yarn over, insert your hook into the next st and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook) yarn over again and pull through all three loops.

MR - How to do a magic ring - amigurumi

Sometimes this stitching is also called “crocheting in the round”. Chain 2-4 stitches, create a loop, and then work you first round in that loop. This method can be used for beginning hats, doilies, amigurumi and other projects worked in rounds.

RSC- Reverse Single Crochet (Crab Stitch)

How to do the crab stitch, also known as the reverse single crochet.

SC - How to do a single crochet

Single crochet (abbreviated sc in patterns) is a basic crochet stitch and is the most common stitch you’ll use in your projects.

Single Crochet Decrease (decrease sc) Tutorial

This type of decrease works best when working in rows. I’ve seen it used in hats, shawls, and accessories.

Single Crochet Invisible Decrease SC - Amigurumi

This is a stitch used when working with amigurumi.

Using this style of decrease helps prevent unsightly holes on your work.

SL - How to Do a Crochet Slipknot

Start your projects with a slipknot. Create a loop and adjust its size, then place on your hook.

SCD - Standing Double Crochet Tutorial (Standing DC)

This crochet stitch tutorial will show you an alternative way to work the turning chain 3 you often see when working rows.

Using this stitch will reduce the amount of holes in your work, resulting in an even, smooth texture and look.

At the end of the row:
Turn your work, sc into first stitch, ch. 1. The standing dc is complete. Now continue to work across your row.

When you come to the end of the row, work into the ch.1, for your last stitch.

That’s all there is to it!  Then continue working dc across.
